What were Chandler's feelings Pre-Mondler?

Am I the only one who thinks Chandler had feelings for Monica prior to their hook up? Not obsessive, I-Think-About-You-Constantly feelings, that would be obvious. But a crush. A What-If interest. As Chandler’s terrified of commitment, logically he’d suppress the attraction. He wouldn’t want to face rejection or lose the security of his best friend.

Look at the facts. There’s a few not-so-subtle suggestion in the first four seasons. He offers to have a baby with her. He hugs her, says it feels nice but makes a quick cover up. He wanted to sleep with her the second time they met. He’s extremely determined to prove he’d be a good boyfriend. He calls her the most beautiful woman he’s ever known. Yes, all the hints are humorous, but it’s CHANDLER. Humour is his emotional defence. He’s a classic Sad Clown, and if he was going to express feelings for Monica, you know it would be through jokes.

Then with the actual hook up. When Monica first kisses him, what’s his reaction? Not “I don’t feel this way.” Or:“I don’t want to do this.” Or even “It could damage our relationship.” No. It’s “We don’t do this.” (Translated: “You don’t like me this way”). And then onto: “How drunk are you?” (Am I taking advantage ofyou?) When she reassures him she’s alright, he gives in and goes with it. His primary concern is how she is and if he could be preying on her vulnerable state. Her feelings are what holds him back, not his own. As there’s no process of whether he’s happy with the situation, we’ve can assume he’s fine with it. And the only reason he’d be fine with it that quickly is if he’d thought about it before. He worried about taking advantage of her…..becausehe was emotionally involved with the situation. Eventually he yields, not for a one night stand, (he wasn’t depressed or desperate for sex), but because deep, deep, deep down he liked her. And really, how many guys could resist that long-time What-If landing in their arms? He wanted it, but held back until she gave him the ok.
