Yay! Mondler Rant!

The number one thing I hate people saying about Mondler is that they had it easy. “Oh Ross and Rachel are better because they worked through stuff. Monica and Chandler didn’t have any problems.”

No. Monica and Chandler did have problems: they faced stuff most couples couldn’t imagine. But they worked through it together. Ross and Rachel were the ones who had it ‘easy’, they made problems for themselves not faced them. They had easy childhoods, everyone wanted them together and they had a child together. The only things that kept them apart was their own stubbornness and miscommunication. Monica and Chandler had to overcome so much more.  Monica’s hurt over her mother’s put downs. (Yet she never stopped giving to others). Chandler’s commitment phobia because his parents never showed him what love should look like. (But he managed to become an incredible friend and husband anyway).  Their friends claiming it wouldn’t work out and joking that Monica ‘could do better’. (Ross and Rachel had people bending backwards to get them back together).

 And when Mondler did get married: Chandler being transferred to Tulsa and managing a long distance relationship. (Ross and Rachel couldn’t even manage her working late at the office).  Then Chandler having to start a whole new career.  That meant less security while they were trying to start a family. But Monica encouraged him. To her, Chandler doing something that he loved was more important than money. Just like he knew taking the Head Chef job was something she had to do even if he missed her. (Ross couldn’t cope with Rachel having a job beyond waitressing and she fell asleep listening to him talk about dinosaurs).

And then of course the big one: Not being able to have kids. Do people know how many couples break up because of infertility? But it didn’t stop Mondler for a minute. Chandler was willing to find a sperm donor so she could live her dream of having a child, even if it hurt him. But Monica chose adoption so it would be fair on both of them. (Somehow Emma wasn’t enough for Ross and Rachel to get over themselves and back together again).

So don’t EVER say Monica and Chandler had it easy. Because they didn’t. But they made it look easy because that’s how strong they were together.
