Not really.
In my opinion, he sings about the feeling of not wanting to be alone. In general. So he wants anyone to be with him, not a special someone. The line “This ain’t love it’s clear to see, but darling, stay with me” makes this obvious. Just my two cents, but obviously you can still think of it as a Matteney song! ;)
