Well, I know a little, kind of that stuff you just read about (like in Friends-related interviews, I think they are most trustworthy considering that topic.)
I always find my friends rolling their eyes at me when I tell them that with Matthew, it has actually been rather ‘unfortunate’ - I mean, obviously I adore him so much, but I defend him in a way that I think it just sort of happened to him; I don’t really see it as being that much his fault (of course, when it comes to addiction, it always becomes that person’s ‘fault’, but I hope you know what I mean to say). I’ll just give you the wikipedia quote on it:
“Perry did a 28-day program in 1997 for a Vicodin addiction. Matthew Perry’s weight fluctuated drastically over the next few years and once dropped down to 145 pounds (66 kg). He lost 20 pounds in 2000 due to pancreatitis.[26] Perry again entered rehab in February 2001 to treat an addiction to opioids (specifically vicodin and methadone), amphetamines and alcohol.[27][28][29] Perry was in Dallas filming Serving Sara with Elizabeth Hurley when he had such severe stomach pains that he called a local doctor, who advised rehab. Perry flew to Los Angeles and checked into Marina del Rey’s Daniel Freeman Hospital.”
So basically, it was an accident that happened during filming and he had to take medication after the surgery and that’s how he got into that stuff. I have no idea in how much it also has something to do with his environment during that time (fame at young age, wrong friends?), so yeah, I hope this helps you.
